Frequently asked questions

Questions, answered.

Straight answers about fireplace remodeling, materials, cost and how we work. Don't see your question? Call or text us.

How much does a fireplace remodel cost?

It depends on the size of the fireplace, the material you choose and how much demolition is needed. A simple refacing of a standard fireplace costs far less than a floor-to-ceiling stone wall with a new hearth and mantel. Send us photos and rough measurements and we can usually give you a ballpark for free.

Is the consultation free?

Yes. Consultations by phone or from your photos are free. If you would like us to come out in person for a design visit, there is a $50 fee.

Can you put stone over my existing brick fireplace?

In many cases, yes. Stacked stone veneer is often installed directly over sound existing brick, which saves demolition. We look at your fireplace first and tell you whether refacing or removal is the better option.

Do I have to replace my fireplace insert or gas logs?

Usually not. Most remodels keep the existing firebox, insert or gas log set and rebuild the surround, hearth and mantel around it. If you are replacing your insert, we plan the stone around the new unit.

What is the difference between natural stone and manufactured stone?

Natural stone is quarried rock: heavier, with natural color variation. Manufactured stone veneer is a lighter cast product made to look like stone, available in many colors and profiles, and it installs over a wider range of walls. Both can look beautiful when they are laid out and set well.

How long does a fireplace remodel take?

It depends on the scope. A simple refacing takes much less time than a full-height stone wall. We give you an estimated window before we start; masonry is not something we rush.

Will there be a lot of dust and mess?

Any demolition makes some dust, but we protect your floors and furniture, keep the work area contained and clean up as we go.

Can you mount a TV on a stone fireplace?

Yes. Many of our fireplaces include a TV above the mantel. Tell us early so we can plan the mantel height and any wiring path before the stone goes up.

Do you remove paint from brick fireplaces?

No, we do not strip paint off brick. If you want painted brick covered with stone or rebuilt, we can help; for paint removal we recommend a paint-removal specialist.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Nick Lambdin Masonry holds California CSLB License #946862 and is licensed and insured.

What areas do you serve?

Sacramento, Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Folsom, Elk Grove, Roseville, Rocklin, Granite Bay, El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, Davis, Woodland and nearby communities.
